Phlebotomy
This 180-hour course consists of 60 hours of lecture/lab and 120 hours of clinical experience.
Topics addressed in this course include proper techniques of skin and venipuncture of adults and children. It also addresses the phlebotomist's role in the health care system, routine lab tests, medical terminology, and universal infection control precautions, among other subjects.
Students must pass the didactic portion of the course in order to proceed to the clinical experience. Students should plan for three to four weeks of first-shift clinicals (Monday through Friday), after the sixty hours of classroom meetings.
Successful completion of the entire course allows the student to be eligible to apply for several national certification examinations.
REGISTRATION IS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. Students must bring proof of high school graduation or GED, driver's license, and Social Security card. The cost is $79.20 for registration.
