Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)—Paramedic Initial

Following the guidelines established by the North Carolina Office of EMS and the curriculum for the EMT—Paramedic educational program as established by the United States Deparatment of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this course meets two nights weekly. The course will be made up as follows: 596 hours didactic, 200 hours clinical, 300 hours field internship and will involve classes offered in the spring, summer, and fall semesters.

Entry Requirements: Successful completion of high school or equivalent from an accredited institution. Current credentials of no less than Emergency Medical Technician—Basic. Successful completion of an entrance exam assessing basic reading comprehension and English skills at a minimum of post-secondary grade level, demonstration of math skills at a minimum of the high school grade level. Students must contact Student Services to determine dates and times of ASSET or COMPASS testing.

Special Requirements: Students are required to complete BIO 165 (Anatomy and Physiology) prior to participating in state credentialing examinations. Students will be required to successfully complete ACLS, BTLS, and PALS courses, which will be offered in the spring and summer semesters prior to beginning clinical and field internships.
