Automotive

Stanly Community College offers a number of automotive training opportunities. Our automotive programs give students the skills and knowledge that can lead to satisfying careers with good pay and opportunities for advancement. Whether you are interested in taking a single course or completing a program of study, SCC may have what you are looking for.

Auto Body Restoration: This 440-hour program in auto body training is designed to prepare the student for entry-level positions in the auto body repair field. The training is graduated based upon the student's skill, experience, and previous training. Completion of this program may span up to five classes depending upon individual class length. Course topics will include a study of automobile construction and design; removing, installing, and cutting materials; metalworking; painting; use of tools; safety procedures; and other related topics.

Automotive Engine Rebuilding: This course covers the repair, rebuilding, and troubleshooting of pre-1975 internal combustion engines. Emphasis is placed on use of tools and equipment to measure reconditioning tolerances of the internal combustion engine. Upon completion, students should be able to disassemble, repair and/or replace, and reassemble an internal combustion engine.

Emissions Certification Training: This 8-hour course is designed to prepare auto technicians and service personnel as OBD II emission inspectors for motor vehicles. Course topics include regulations and test inspection procedures required by the North Carolina DMV Enforcement Section for OBD emission inspectors. Upon completion a student should understand the rules, regulations, and procedures for OBD emission inspections; be able to inspect a vehicle properly; and be prepared to sit for the state certification exam.

Vehicle Safety Inspection Training: This 8-hour course is designed to prepare auto technicians and service personnel as safety inspectors for motor vehicles. Course topics include regulations and test inspection procedures required by the North Carolina DMV Enforcement Section for safety inspectors. Upon completion a student should understand the rules, regulations, and procedures for safety inspections; be able to inspect a vehicle properly; and be prepared to sit for the state certification exam.

Course enrollment is limited and students must preregister.
