Stanly Community College is committed to the safety and security of all members of the College community. In order to achieve this everyone must share responsibility. While on campus, please observe the following guidelines:
Campus Law Enforcement
Stanly Community College employs sworn law enforcement officers with full powers of arrest to patrol the campus. At the Albemarle Campus a Stanly County Sheriff's Deputy provides primary coverage with back-up and evening coverage handled by members of the Albemarle Police Department. At the Crutchfield Education Center officers from the Locust Police Department are employed to provide this service.
How to Report a Crime or Emergency
At both the Albemarle Campus and Crutchfield Education Center (using a telephone accessing the College's system):
Nonemergencies may be reported to the College's switchboard operator by dialing "0" at the Albemarle Campus or "364" at the Crutchfield Education Center. The Deputy Sheriff may be reached at Extension 300 or the direct dial number, which is (704) 991-0300. The nonemergency number for the 911 Communication Center is (704) 986-3700.
Albemarle Campus—Code Blue Phones
The Albemarle Campus has two "Code Blue" phones. One unit is located at the end of Parking Lot E, and the second unit is near Parking Lot G. In the event of an emergency, 911 is contacted by simply pushing the large red button and giving good clear information to the 911 operator. Misuse of these phones can result in the enforcement of criminal charges and/or school discipline.
Traffic and Parking Information
All drivers are expected to drive carefully, courteously, and to obey all state and College traffic regulations while on the campus. These include:
College parking fines are $5 and may be paid in the Business Office, which is located in Room 125 of the Patterson Building. Students owing parking fines will not be allowed to register for the following semester. If you believe you have received a parking ticket in error, you may contact Becky Wall, VChief Financial Officer, to appeal. She is located in Room 103 of the Patterson Building or by telephone at (704) 991-0176.
The College does not guarantee the safety of parked vehicles or their contents and is not responsible for the loss of or damage to any parked automobile or its contents.
When convenient to do so, campus officers will assist with jump-starting vehicle batteries. Due to liability issues, officers do not unlock car doors.
Weapons on Campus property
Firearms and/or weapons are not allowed on any campus property. This includes vehicles, parking lots, etc. To bring a firearm onto campus is a violation of North Carolina law and the College code of conduct. These restrictions do not apply to on-duty law enforcement personnel or to any legitimate college-sponsored activity.
Drugs and Alcohol
SCC prohibits the unlawful use, possession, distribution, manufacture, or dispensation of any controlled substance or alcohol while on campus. This includes facilities leased by the College or at a College-supported function. The complete drug and alcohol policy may be found on the College web site or obtained from the office of the Vice President of Students.
Registered Sex Offenders
Effective October 2002 the Campus Sex Crime Prevention Act requires that institutions of higher education advise the campus community where it can obtain information about registered sex offenders as provided by the state of North Carolina. This information is located at: http://ncfindoffender.com/.
