Carolina Auction Academy Racks up Awards


aaron(February 4, 2013) Stanly Community College’s (SCC) Carolina Auction Academy (CAA) graduates and instructors recently attended the winter conference of the Auctioneers Association of North Carolina (AANC) held in Greensboro. They came back with awards and honors as well as new information offered through the educational seminars.

CAA graduate David Bailey from Newton, NC, was elected to the AANC Board of Directors and will serve a two-year term.  Aaron Maye, CAA graduate from Monroe, NC and current Rookie Reserve Champion, competed in the State Championship and won the title of Runner-up Champion.  Kelly R.  Williams, CAA graduate from Lake Norman, NC is serving as editor of the Association Magazine which is published four times per year. Lynn Zink, reigning 2012 International Ladies Champion, was one of the seminar presenters and served as one of the five judges for the championship contest.

The State Advertising award for Audio Visuals- Radio/TV/Website/ Email Advertising division went to Carolina Auction Academy and Stanly Community College for a show produced by James Cotton and Shelley Hancock. It featured instructors Eli Detweiler Jr., and Betty O’Neal as interviewers for recent CAA graduates as they discussed their success. The show was also used to promote the St. Jude Children’s Hospital Benefit auction and was shown on Time Warner Cable channel 21.

The summer conference will be held in New Bern, NC on June 14, 2013. CAA is an accredited school of auctioneering, and is also recognized by the National Auctioneer’s Association.

According to instructor Bill O’Neal, “we are extremely pleased to see CAA graduates join their professional organization, share their talents and successes, and take an active role in promoting the auction method of marketing.”
