Commissioners Sign FBLA-PBL Week Proclamation


pblproclam2013(February 7, 2013) Members of the Stanly County Board of Commissioners have signed a proclamation recognizing local participation in the national Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Week, February 11-15.

Delegates from the West Stanly High School FBLA chapter and the Stanly Community College (SCC) and Pfeiffer University PBL chapters attended the February 4 meeting of the commissioners for the signing.

Commissioner Lindsey Dunavant read the proclamation and Commissioners Chair Gene McIntyre made comments expressing appreciation to the groups for their community and business involvement.

Speaking on behalf of the delegates were Courtney Seidenschmidt and Brandon Harkey, state PBL officers from the SCC chapter.  Also representing SCC PBL were Rathavone Wilder, Kalia Vang, Maggie Mobley, and Jesse Crump.

Representing Pfeiffer PBL were officers Yonteena Williams and Chris Stokes. Representing West Stanly FBLA were Chapter Officers Regan Johnson and Chuckie VanHoose.  A special guest with the group was Neili Eggert, the state Phi Beta Lambda president from Statesville.

Highlights of FBLA-PBL Week will include such activities as announcements of the groups’ Business Person of the Year, fundraisers for March of Dimes, and various leadership programs. National Adviser Appreciation Day will be held on Wednesday of FBLA-PBL week.

The adviser for West Stanly High School is Mr. John Thompson.  Pfeiffer University advisers are Ms. Robin Listerman and Ms. Debbie Wood.  Advising the Stanly Community College chapter are Mrs. Merlin Amirtharaj, Mrs. Tammi McIlwaine, and Mr. Dan Hazlett.

All three groups are active at the state level, and all three have received recognition at the national level over the last few years. Both the high school and the college levels of the organization promote awareness of free enterprise business principles, community service, and leadership development.
