SCC to Hold Free College Day

sccnewsicon(March 22, 2013) Stanly Community College (SCC) will hold its second annual  “Free College Day” on April 13, 2013 on the Albemarle Campus. This is a great opportunity for community members to experience classes for free and learn about their community college.

The schedule includes serious and fun classes.  A wide range of educational opportunities will be offered, such as: Alcohol Ink Painting, Are You Cyber Savvy?, Basic CPR and AED, CCP: How to Earn College Credit in High School, Cell Phone Photography Apps and Techniques, Crime Scene Sketch, Does the Nursing Shoe Fit?, Financial Aid 101, Fire Safety, Food of Mesoamerica, How to Treat a Burn, Intro to Computer Security, Mock Crime Scene, Natural Academics for Young Children - PART 1 & 2, Stealing Time: Secrets to Time Management, and many more.

Denise Ross, the dean of student outreach and support, noted, “Free College Day is a one-day event that we are extremely excited about.  It’s a great opportunity for the community to get a glimpse of what SCC has to offer.  We encourage community members to sign up for a class, visit our campus, meet our faculty and staff, and experience Stanly Community College firsthand.”

For a complete schedule and to register for classes, visit our website at and click on the “Free College Day” banner on the home page, or call 704-982-0121 to speak with a college representative.  Each class has a seating limit.  We encourage participants to register online; however, late registration will be available on site beginning at 8:30 a.m. on April 13.  Classes for the day will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the last class offered will begin at 12 noon.  Don’t let this opportunity pass you by!
