Cosmetology Students Create Towering Hairdos & Exotic Styles

Students Pose For Hair Show(October 14, 2013) On Monday, October 7, 2013, more than 100 visitors packed the Dennis Auditorium at Stanly Community College (SCC) for the annual hair show. Students from the SCC Cosmetology Department created dramatic, often startling looks with towering hairdos, glamorous makeup, and exotic styles. The show was themed for Christmas and Halloween.

Stanly Early College students started the show off by dancing to Thriller. Several of the cosmetology students, along with alumni, family and friends sported Halloween and Christmas themed costumes that resembled the likes of The Sanderson Sisters from the movie Hocus Pocus, a green-eyed monster, Elvira Mistress of the Dark, 1960’s Christmas, Cindy Lou Who and The Grinch, and Ice Princess. The Albemarle High School Modeling Troop also performed a Christmas dance.

David Smith, Cosmetology Instructor stated, “We want to thank all those who helped us put this show together, especially our alumni, students, family and friends; and, a special thank you to Tammy Shepherd and Linda Hatley, both Cosmetology Instructors, for their leadership with the students.”

Students were given a cosmetology graduate pin by one of the instructors during a pinning ceremony that was held at the end of the hair show. The SCC Cosmetology Department offers instruction to both men and women in all phases of cosmetology. Graduates should be prepared to take the North Carolina Cosmetology State Board Licensing Exam and upon passing be licensed and qualify for employment in beauty and cosmetic/skin care salons, as a platform artist, or in related businesses.

The Cosmetology Department offers a variety of services to the public at very reasonable prices. All work is performed by students under the supervision of instructors.
