SCC Foundation Hosts Inaugural Chili Cook-Off

Badin Inn(October 14, 2013) October 5, 2013, was a beautiful fall day as 17 teams gathered for the inaugural Chili Cook-Off hosted by the Stanly Community College (SCC) Foundation. Tickets were sold for tasters and chili was judged for prizes as many people attended this fun and family-friendly event held in Albemarle’s Market Street Station.

The Badin Inn and Golf Resort’s BIG and Tasty team took top honors for a first place trophy while Big Al’s came in second place and Mary Kay’s Freda’s Finest team claimed the third place prize.

Off the Square won the Most Team Spirit award and The White House Chefs won Most Creative Booth and the People’s Choice award.

Judges for the event were Eddie Wall, winner from the local Dancing with the Stars contest; Gail Burris, owner of the Rosebriar Restaurant; and Lee Pickler, owner of ScanOnline and the major event sponsor.

The Chili Cook-Off Chair for the event was Bryce Kimrey, Vice-Chair was Meredith Clements, and Foundation Resource Development Chair was Sue Bohnsack. The Chili Cook-Off Committee members also include Roger Dick, Joseph Burleson, Tim McAuley, Bernie Holt, Vicki Coggins, and Ross Stokes.

“The Inaugural SCC Foundation Chili Cook-Off benefitting the College was a huge success due to the hard work of the Chili Cook-Off committee, Resource and Development committee, generous sponsors and the 17 chili chefs,” stated Sue Bohnsack. “I want to personally thank them as well as all of the people who attended this event. I can't wait until next year with bigger and better things to come!”
