SCC Celebrates Literacy

Smith Donors(November 5th, 2013) In honor of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Month, the Stanly Community College (SCC) College and Career Readiness (CCR) department invited students to explore industrial occupation programs offered on the Albemarle campus.

It is highly encouraged for students to transition into a curriculum or occupational extension program after completion of adult high school or high school equivalency. Research shows that completing a high school education and pursuing a post-secondary degree are key to an individual’s economic advancement and expanded social opportunities.

Students gathered at the jobsite to witness demonstrations of the Electrical Lineman and Heavy Equipment programs. Instructors Randy Smith and Josh Aldridge answered questions regarding skills, safety and enrollment procedures for these programs.

The College and Career Readiness department includes Adult Basic Education, Adult High School, General Education Diploma (GED®) and English as a Second Language. Stanly Community College is committed to student success through advising, mentoring and providing a foundation which bridges a high school education to a certificate, diploma or degree program.
