Student Emergency Fund Drive Kicks-off

sccnewsicon(November 8, 2013) Stanly Community College (SCC) has begun its annual Student Emergency Fund Drive in conjunction with the holiday season. The Student Emergency Fund is a valuable resource that helps students who may find themselves in difficult financial situations. This fund provides monetary relief to students for emergencies that occur during the semester and that may cause a student to drop out of college. The fund does not support tuition, fees or books.

"As a single mother of four and a full-time student, there have been several times that I have faced hardships. However, losing my home had to be the most difficult of all those hardships. Thanks to the Student Emergency Fund, I was able to pay my storage bill and find temporary shelter until I found permanent housing for my family. Truly, there are no words that can express what a great blessing the emergency funds have been for us,” explained an Early Childhood Education student.

The College goal is $10,000 and the deadline for donations is December 13. Janet Sistare, SCC Foundation Director, noted, “Some of our students struggle to pay for the necessities such as rent, food and the utility bills. Our goal is to ensure that students continue their education, no matter what obstacles they encounter.”

Regardless of the amount of your donation, the impact you make through charitable giving will be lasting and meaningful, as well as help build a better future for our students. For those who would like to make a pledge, please contact Janet Sistare at (704) 991-0189, or email at Click the image below to access the Student Emergency Fund donation form.
