Student Leadership Awards at SCC

(May 1, 2014) Stanly Community College (SCC) students and advisors were recently honored at a luncheon recognizing campus organization leaders. Honorees were selected from the various clubs and student organizations on campus and they received a college medallion which can be worn at graduation ceremonies.

Phi Beta Lambda Advisor Dan Hazlett served as the emcee for the ceremony and Executive Vice President of Education Services Robin McCree gave welcoming remarks.

Student Government Association (SGA) Advisor Sophia Costner recognized students who had received state and national awards during the academic year. Ms. Costner also announced the winner of the “Soaring Eagle” award which is given to the outstanding student organization of the year displaying the most participation in campus and community events. The recipient this year was the Medical Assisting Club advised by Starra Robinson and Heather Whitley.

Honorees for the student leadership awards include Kayla Hatley - Associate Degree Nursing Club; Alexandrea Harwood - Cosmetology Club; Rashaad Baldwin - Criminal Justice Club; Susan Almond - Human Services Club; Maggie Hopkins - Medical Assisting Club; Taylor Owen – Pharmacy Tech Club, and Katrina Sams – Phi Beta Lambda Student Organization. Also recognized were the faculty and staff members who serve as advisors for the student organizations on campus.
