Storm Technologies CEO Speaks to Students

pbl_dickstorm(January 19, 2010) “Six Pointers for Success” was the topic as Mr. Dick Storm, CEO of Storm Technologies, spoke to Stanly Community College (SCC) students as part of a Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) “Free Enterprise Awareness Day” convocation that was recently held on the Albemarle Campus.

“Each chapter of the national leadership organization for college students in business and business-related programs sponsors a program each fall to call attention to the American Enterprise System and the career and other business choices available as part of our economic system,” commented Stephanie Roach, the SCC PBL officer who organized the program. “We were pleased to have a local leader of Mr. Storm’s caliber share his thoughts with us.”

Destiny Brown welcomed those in attendance, and Ms. Roach introduced Mr. Storm and Ms. Charlotte Maness, Human Resource Director at Storm Technologies.

Mr. Storm compared words on the Phi Beta Lambda crest – Service, Education, Progress – to the words on the Storm Technologies logo – Service, Quality, Results. “Through your service as PBL members, you are off to a good start of being successful,” Mr. Storm commented to the students.

Mr. Storm spoke on how important it is for everyone to learn a skill and apply it with passion each day, and encouraged the students to be proud of being an American, to be appreciative of the foundation of freedom, hard work, and innovation laid by the founding government and business leaders of the country, to uphold the value of ethics in the workplace, and to have a knowledge of the country’s history.

His other points included, doing the best work possible rather than accepting mediocrity and minimum requirements, keeping a “can do” attitude, continue to learn and realize there is never a time to stop the educational process, building character and being known for honesty and integrity even when no one is watching, and asking for God’s guidance individually and for the nation.

“Mr. Storm certainly challenged us with very concrete suggestions based on his years of experience,”  Ms. Roach commented. “His interest in students is very much appreciated.”

A luncheon was held for Mr. Storm, Ms. Maness, and the PBL members following the program.  Stanly Community College’s Phi Beta Lambda members from left to right are: Front Row: Destiny Brown,
