Carolina Auction Academy Holds 13th Graduation Ceremony

The Carolina Auction Academy (CAA), Stanly Community College’s (SCC) premier auctioneer school held its 13th graduation ceremony on November 10th at the Crutchfield Campus in Locust.

In addition to learning laws, rules, regulations, and the chant, each class participates in a live auction at Hinson’s Auction in Oakboro. Students donate three items in which they auction to the highest bidder. The funds raised through this auction go to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

This class had the opportunity to use a video conferencing room for an informal meeting with the executive director of the NC Auctioneer Licensing Board, Teresa Watson and the Educational Testing Coordinator, Becky Steward, both located in Raleigh.

In a “secret ballot” election held by the students, two participants received top awards – “Most Improved” went to Norma Jean Scott and “Best All Around” went to Aaron T. Maye. These awards carry added honor since it is voted solely by the class peers.

CAA brings in students from across North and South Carolina. This class had students attending from areas as far away as Sanford, Mooresville, Hemby Bridge, Iron Station and Statesville.

The auction academy conducts two classes per year and limits class size to 20 students. The 96-hour program includes content required by the North Carolina Auctioneer Licensing Board and the South Carolina Auctioneer Commission designed to prepare students to successfully complete the state exams.
