EMT Basic

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT – Basic)

This course is designed to train individuals to become emergency medical personnel. Topics covered include patient assessment, basic life support techniques, CPR and AED, Oxygen administration, patient trauma care, etc. Upon successful completion, it is recommended that the student participate in written certification examinations administered by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services. Class hours: 184. Field internship hours: 16.

Entry requirements: Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED and have a tenth grade reading level. All students are required to take a reading assessment. Medical records including childhood vaccinations, tuberculosis testing, and Hepatitis B vaccine or declination will be required within the first month of class.

Basic classes usually start the first of January and the middle of July.
