The goal of this program is to prepare students for national certification exams provided by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). The courses required for successful completion of this program are as follows:

1. Medical Terminology
2. Anatomy and Physiology for Coders
3. Medical Billing and Coding
4. Medical Office Practices

We offer each class in the spring, summer, and fall semesters. You have flexibility in how you schedule your classes. The only required order is that you complete Medical Terminology before you begin Medical Billing and Coding. The other classes can be taken in any order. If you can take more than one course at a time, we recommend that you take Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology your first semester, followed by Medical Billing and Coding and Medical Office Practices your second semester. A US high school diploma or GED is required before beginning this program.

This program is currently pending approval for payment with WIA funds. Please note that we cannot guarantee that WIA funds (disseminated through the Employment Security Commission, Gaston Community Action, etc) will pay for your classes.
