This course is designed to teach students to accurately and effectively transcribe medical terms and physician dictation. Course topics include understanding report formats for chart notes, history and physicals, letters, and discharge summaries. Class will begin with a detailed review of medical terminology and then proceed to transcription. Students will learn to increase speed with the use of simulations of physician dictation.

Students must have successfully completed an approved medical terminology class in order to take this class. Successful completion of a keyboarding course or experience in keyboarding is recommended.

• Text is required and will be available in the SCC Bookstore during semesters when this course if offered

• Successful completion of an approved medical terminology course or equivalent
