In-Service Training

For Law Officers Only

We provide in-service courses for the development of experienced and recently employed law enforcement officials. The expansion of these courses is based upon the needs and interests of the criminal justice and law enforcement community.  Please contact us if you are interested in taking any of the following courses.

  • Advanced At-Scene Crash Investigation -  Topics will include speed estimates from kinetic energy, skid marks, scuff marks and airborne situations; vehicle dynamics and motion; diagramming vehicle damage, tire damage evaluation; advanced photography and video techniques as well as much more.  (Prerequisite: At-Scene Crash Investigation)
  • At-Scene Crash Investigation - This course involves mathematical, evidentiary and practical exercise approaches to traffic crash investigations.
  • Commercial Motor Vehicle Crash Investigation - This course provides information on the classification and Operation of Commercial Motor Vehicles and will provide a level of competence to perform an adequate post crash inspection of such vehicles.
  • Field Training Officer (FTO) - This course is gives the student the skills and knowledge to supervise and train new officers.
  • In-Car Video Training - This course is designed to equip the police officer in the field with the basic knowledge necessary for the legal and procedural use of in-car mobile video equipment.
  • Pedestrian Crash Investigation - This course is designed to investigate a vehicle-pedestrian collision. Students will learn about blunt force trauma, collision sequence events, and evidence left from vehicle and pedestrian.
  • Radar Operator Certification - This course is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to proficiently perform those tasks essential to function as a radar operator. Radar Operator Certification Course is a commission-mandated course governed by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
  • Radar Re-Certification - This course is for those officers wishing to renew their radar certification in accordance with state standards.
  • Standardized Field Sobriety Test / Driving While Impaired (DWI)  Refresher Course - This course is designed, to update the Law Enforcement Officers responsible for enforcing the Driving While Impaired statute.
  • Standardized Field Sobriety Test / Driving While Impaired (DWI) - The topics to be covered will include recognizing and interpreting evidence of DWI violations and administering and interpreting standardized field sobriety test. Students will be able to describe DWI evidence in a clear and convincing manner in written and verbal testimony.
  • Traffic Crash Reconstruction - This course includes a review of previously covered materials in At-Scene Crash Investigation and Advanced At-Scene Crash Investigation courses. Students will learn  accident reconstruction methodology, procedure and practical exercises that will enable them to become proficient in reconstructing various types of traffic accidents.  (Prerequisite: Advanced At-Scene Crash Investigation) 
  • Traffic Officer Certificate Program - Achieving this certificate equips the student  with the fundamentals in traffic enforcement. Complete the certificate application to be awarded this certificate.  Certificates will be presented twice annually (December and June).   No substitutions or exceptions will be made regarding the certificate requirements.
