Basic Law Enforcement Training
Basic Law Enforcement Training is a curriculum certification course that is required in North Carolina to become a police officer or deputy sheriff. To be eligible for the program, participants must possess a high school diploma or GED, be at least 20 years old, must obtain certified record check, have no felony convictions, and obtain sponsorship from a North Carolina law enforcement agency.
Students entering the Basic Law Enforcement Training program must meet standards as indicated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Standards and the North Carolina Sheriff’s Standards Division of the North Carolina Department of Justice. Students must meet the following requirements to become enrolled in the program:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Have a tenth-grade reading and language skills level
- Must be at least 20 years old
- Present a certified record check(s) from all locations resided in since the age of 16
- Obtain sponsorship from a North Carolina law enforcement agency
- Never have committed or been convicted of a felony nor have committed or been convicted of a Class B misdemeanor in the last five years or a Class A misdemeanor in the last two years
- Meet medical screening guidelines for the certification of criminal justice officers in the state of North Carolina
Basic Law Enforcement Training classes are scheduled as follows:
- Rotation schedule will begin January 2009
- Applications for admissions are being accepted, applications should be returned to SCC no later than November 3, 2008. The rotation schedule that will be offered will be based on the applications received
- Please gather the following…Sponsorship Forms, Criminal Background Checks since the age of 16, Copy of High School Diploma/GED, Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate
- Military backgrounds: DD form 214 member 4 form, record checks from every county you have lived (or stationed), if you served abroad please obtain a letter from the Department of Defense stating that you had no criminal activity while abroad

Fall 2009 SCC will offer a full-time day and part-time evening BLET program.
