A Look Back at SCC Baseball
The Stanly Community College baseball program ended its 2010 campaign last month and finished with an overall record of 27-23. The baseball team made huge gains from the year before collecting 13 more wins in 2010 and finishing with a winning percentage above .500 for the first time in the young programs history. The Eagles came up just one run short of making its conference tournament and put one player on the first team all region team.
Freshman Jacob Wright from Kannapolis, NC, was selected First Team All-Region 10 at the Designated Hitter position. Jacob hit 19 homeruns while racking up 71 RBI and finished the year with a .379 batting average. He also stole 13 bases and was walked 15 times. Wright also finished 1-0 on the mound while picking up 1 save.
The Eagle baseball program also said goodbye to 5 sophomores at the end of the year. Chris “Bubba” Donathan had a solid career with the Eagles hitting .365 over his two year span and is talking with Greensboro College for next year. Nathan High saw 18 innings on the mound over his career while finishing with an ERA of 5.45. Nathan Barker will also be moving on and attending Western Carolina University. Nathan saw 71 innings on the mound for the Eagles and had a batting average .278. Raynel Pena moves on as well. Ray hit .306 over his 2 year career at Stanly. And last but not least is Cody Walker. Cody Walker has signed a baseball scholarship for next year at Montreat College. Cody threw 79 innings on the mound for the Eagles and finished with a record of 10-5. Walker also hit 2 homeruns at SCC.
Stanly Community College and its baseball program would like to thank all of its supporters throughout the year and is looking forward to another great year in 2011
