Service Learning—Community Partner Comments
What improvements and recommendations would you make to the SCC Service Learning Program?
- It would be helpful to know what the student’s goals are for the program and their education/careers to best match the projects needed at our organization to the student’s interests and talents.
- A timeline from faculty at the beginning. Maybe more follow up between faculty and agency to make sure students are okay.
- Send us more students! We’ve only had three for a short time.

How has your agency/organization benefited by utilizing the SCC Service Learning Program?
- Student completed a couple of projects that our staff had not been able to get around to doing.
- Work being done that we couldn’t do with our staff size.
- They provided valuable one-on-one assistance to our patients.
- Words cannot explain how SCC’s staff and students have touched the lives of seniors in Stanly County.
- ORM (Oakboro Regional Museum) can now continue with the restoration project of First Presbyterian Church, Oakboro.
- Students have filled a need for the work.
In what ways have SCC students benefited from their experiences with your agency/organization?
- (Students have) learned important function of our agency (and other historic/cultural organizations) cataloging incoming artifacts/collections.
- Learning about our agency is biggest (way).
- They have learned about an important service available to older/disabled adults and their family members.
- I hope they have gained knowledge, experience, customer service skills, and contacts which are all beneficial in finding a job.
- Learned museum and community pride in restoration and preservation.
- Hopefully they have learned from their hands on experience.
