"In economics we study the total production and distribution systems within an economy. We’re going to look at different world economies that utilize socialism, capitalism, and communism as a means to produce goods and services. Special attention will be given to capitalism because that is how we produce goods and services in the United States. When we speak of capitalism, it is sometimes called free enterprise when we are talking about private ownership of property rather than government ownership. Therefore, we will look at how small business makes decisions in today’s competitive markets.
Economics can be broken into two basic areas: microeconomics and macroeconomics. In microeconomics we will look at how small business makes decisions in relation to supply and demand, costs, and international trade. In recent years the United States has experienced fierce competition from abroad. Nowhere has this been more intense than automobiles and textiles. We will look at how decision making has changed in relation to this fierce competition. Areas of study will include downsizing, reorganization, and plant closure. We will look at how small businesses have combined productive resources to create jobs. Jobs are most important because this creates our standard of living.
In macroeconomics we look at the total overall picture. Topics covered will include the Federal Reserve System (which is our national banking system), inflation, taxation, and unemployment. International trade methods utilized by the federal government to control inflation and unemployment will be looked at in great detail. Exports and imports will also be examined in relation to their impact and effect on the American economy. Upon completion students should better understand the world in which they work and live."

"If you find yourself in a certain situation, whether it be legal or ethical, we will teach you the legal framework of your business by studying contracts, negotiable instruments, the uniform commercial code, the working of the court system, and  current events affecting business law. Everyday controversial ethical issues face the business community. Our students are exposed to cases involving moral reasoning, law, morality, equity, justice, ethical standards, and moral development. Upon completion of our business law and ethics courses, students should be able to apply the laws covered to business situations and understand his or her obligations as members of both the workforce and society."
