Networking Technology

More and more students are turning toward networking because of the industry demand for networks.   Most businesses find networking advantageous in regard to their budgets, time, and personnel.  Just take a look at any business today—most have networks, whether they are small or large. They all need to be managed by a network administrator.

What will the student learn?

Stanly Community College offers a two-year degree in Network Technology that trains students to set up, install, and maintain all of the different systems that are required in order for computers to communicate with each other.  Students are trained on the latest and most advanced operating systems such as Windows Server 2003 and RedHat Enterprise Linux 4, as well as working with a variety of Cisco routing and switching products.

What’s the job outlook?

According to the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina at www.ncesc.com, a Network and Computer Systems Administrator can earn between $40,274 and $60,972, depending on their level of education and their experience.  Network administrators are needed in just about every industry.

The U.S. Department of Labor at www.bls.gov, tells us that “job growth will continue to be driven by the ongoing expansion of the computer system design and related services industry, which is projected to remain one of the fastest-growing industries in the U.S. economy.”
