(January 29, 2008) Carolina Auction Academy (CAA), a division of Stanly Community College (SCC), was well represented at the Auctioneers Association of North Carolina (AANC) winter conference in Greensboro, North Carolina, on January 17-19. CAA Instructors attending were: Ivan Broadwell, Eli Detweiler, Gary Boyd, Bill O’Nea,l and Betty O’Neal. The featured speaker was Neal Davis, International Live Stock and Auto Auctioneer from Arkansas.
Ivan Broadwell, Senior CAA Instructor, was inducted into the AANC Hall of Fame. To be considered for nomination, AANC members must be active participating members for at least ten years and actively participate in the profession through national, state, and community activities. “It’s only appropriate that Ivan was inducted into the Hall of Fame; he’s considered the top in his field,” remarked Betty O’Neal, Director, Business Resource Center at SCC. “CAA students gain a lot of practical knowledge from Ivan, and he’s very open about sharing his talents. As a sought after appraiser, Ivan lets students bring in an item of interest during class; and he will appraise it for them as part of their learning process. Ivan and his wife Shirley have been active auctioneers for many years in both North and South Carolina and continue the traditions by working for their daughter Jennifer in her auction business. One of Ivan's largest auctions was when he auctioned PTL facilities and contents. We are blessed to have Ivan as a part of our team,” added O’Neal.
According to the National Auctioneers Association, over $257 billion worth of goods and services sold at auction in 2006.
