(January 14, 2007) Colorado’s Former Lt. Governor Joe Rogers will present a commendable dedication in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Joe Rogers, who served as the youngest lieutenant governor in the country and the highest ranking African American state elected official, will present The Dream Alive Program at the Stanly County Agricultural Civic Center in Albemarle, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2008.
The Dream Alive Program is an acclaimed positive and uplifting dedication to the memory and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., and leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. The program has been presented at colleges, corporations, and conferences throughout America.
This live commentary will take audience members back in time to the renowned 1963 March on Washington where King delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech to his final words delivered in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. The program has been described as “uncanny, electrifying, spellbinding, awesome, touching like King was in the room.”
“Joe Rogers represents a new generation of leadership, and he will offer a fresh and new perspective,” said Dr. Russell H. Sharples, Vice President of Student Development, Stanly Community College. “He will speak to the relevance of Dr. King’s message to contemporary life and the relevance of the message to all people, not just African Americans.”
“For everyone who has yearned to personally hear King’s words and vision with an up-to-date perspective, this is an experience not to be missed,” Sharples added. “Come one. Come all. We want this to be one of the best attended programs in our college’s history. That’s why we have invited students, faculty, staff, and the greater community to join us for a remarkable evening in dedication to keeping the dream alive,” Sharples concluded.
The Dream Alive program is free to the public and is made possible in part through a grass roots grant from the Stanly County Arts Council.
