(January 17, 2008) After taking classes at Stanly Community College (SCC), it didn’t take long for Chris Bowers to obtain his N. C. General Contractors License. Bowers, a Stanly County native from Norwood, graduated in 1998 from South Stanly High School. He started his career in auto detailing after landing a job at a Charlotte dealership, where he later was promoted to basic auto service technician. Although Chris had a good job, he realized he wanted to do something different and found himself employed with a residential construction crew, remodeling homes on lakefront property. Within a short period of time, Chris realized he had a passion for construction management.
“By spring 2007, I enrolled in the N. C. General Contracting and the Commercial Construction Codes classes at Stanly Community College. I knew that a General Contractors License would provide me with opportunities to reach my goals,” explained Bowers. “Stanly Community College provided knowledgeable and experienced instructors, excellent course content, and offered a practical class schedule for working adults,” added Bowers.
“Chris is a great example of a student who made the commitment to utilize the resources at SCC to achieve his career goals in the construction industry,” remarked Ed Gann, Career and Technical Coordinator, SCC Corporate and Professional Education Division. “We’re very proud of Chris and his accomplishments. SCC works closely with business and industry, and we were able to help Chris find employment as the Assistant Superintendent for a residential contractor,” added Gann. “These valuable resources are available to anyone who wants to take advantage of them.
