(January 25, 2008) Jeff Lamb has been employed by Stanly Community College (SCC) as the two-year institution's first baseball coach. Jeff, formerly head baseball coach at South Stanly High School (SSHS), will also teach in the business division at the college. Jeff grew up in Parkersburg, West Virginia, where he earned his bachelor of arts degree in business education at Glenville State College in West Virginia. Jeff has also attended the University of West Virginia and UNCC.
After relocating to Stanly County, Jeff taught business classes as a vocational teacher at South Stanly High School. In 2000 he received the reins for the baseball program and in 2005 received the “Teacher of the Year” award. Through Jeff’s guidance and hard work he developed a program that competed at the highest levels of 1A Division for SSHS. He also had the honor to coach in the East/West Senior State games 2007.
“We are delighted to have someone with Jeff's experience starting our baseball program at SCC. Jeff is not only a great addition as a baseball coach but also as a member of the faculty,” remarked SCC President, Dr. Michael Taylor.
“I’m thrilled and privileged to accept this wonderful opportunity and look forward to developing SCC’s baseball team,” said Jeff Lamb. “Our goal is to produce young men who have the capacity to be successful citizens in our highly competitive society. In a single game a student/athlete can feel the aspiration of success and the agony of failure. We want our student/athletes to leave school saying they were proud to have played baseball,” explained Lamb. “We are currently recruiting individuals who want to further their education and play baseball. I encourage anyone who has an interest in baseball and would like to take advantage of this unique opportunity to give us a call,” added Lamb.
“I'm very excited that Jeff is joining our faculty,” noted Dr. Russell H. Sharples, Vice President of Student Development. “He brings with him years of teaching experience and expertise in the business field. In addition to his instructional expertise, Jeff is committed to the concept that effective student learning is not confined to the classroom. He is dedicated to insuring his students and players gain skills and knowledge that will greatly benefit them in the future,” added Dr. Sharples.
