(July 25, 2007) Jann Lowder was recently sworn in as a member of the Stanly Community College Board of Trustees. Mrs. Lowder, appointed by the Stanly County Board of Education, becomes the 59th person to serve as an SCC trustee since the college was chartered in 1971.
A Stanly County native, she is a graduate of Albemarle High School and attended Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory. She recently retired from TKG Transport, Inc., after more than 33 years in the transportation industry. She is a past member of the North Carolina Trucking Association and North Carolina Safety Management Council, serving on the Executive Committees and chairing several committees of both groups.
In the community she has been very active in a number of organizations as well as politics. She has also served as chairperson of the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce, as Director of the Stanly County Arts Council, and Albemarle Rotary Club of which she is a current member. She is also a current member of the Stanly County Board of Elections and the Board of Directors for Hospice of Stanly County.
Mrs. Lowder thanked the Board of education for her appointment and expressed her desire to work on the college’s board to "offer educational opportunities not only for our young people but also for our adults."
Mrs. Lowder and her husband Gary have three children and four grandchildren.
