SCC-TV Becomes Full-time Channel

(March 13, 2008) Beginning March 26 Stanly Community College's (SCC) community broadcast Channel 7 moves to Channel 21 on the Time Warner Cable (TWC) dial.  The move to the new channel will afford SCC the opportunity to expand broadcast service, according to SCC President Dr. Michael Taylor.  "Moving our location on the TV dial to number 21 will allow us to broadcast 24/7.  Previously, we were limited to times in the late afternoon and evenings; but now we have time to expand our offerings to the community," Dr. Taylor explained.

Mark Sample, SCC's Director of Media Services, said that Channel 21 would be classified as a local origination channel which would enhance SCC's ability to provide educational and informative programming about the college and Stanly County.

Sample explained that SCC-TV will continue to host a variety of programs.  "We will continue to broadcast meetings of the County Commissioners, School Board and Albemarle City Council on a regular schedule.  Other current features that will continue include  SCC's own—College and the Community, Stanly Regional Medical Center's Healthbeat program with Ben Jolly, and Stanly County Chamber of Commerce Business Review with Tom Ramseur.  High schools in the county will continue to have their own news and information programs.  Another returning feature to the new channel will be the very popular Stanly County Monday Night Football, which features county teams in action each fall.

The expanded hours will allow the college to develop more original programming while airing features and news from other commercial and free sources. Obviously we will not be operating 24/7 on March 21, and we may never get to that extensive programming; but we hope to add programming hours in the morning and afternoon to make the channel more responsive to the information needs of the county,” concluded Sample.
