(October, 8 2007) Stanly Community College held its sixth annual car show on Saturday, October 6, at the Locust Town Centre. Car enthusiasts, participants, sponsors, and vendors enjoyed a day filled with beautiful weather, a plethora of automobiles, door prizes, music, family and fun! Stanly Community College’s Carolina Auction Academy instructor, Bill O’Neal, had the opportunity to auction four vehicles throughout the day.
“Locust Town Centre is growing rapidly, and we thought it would be a great location for the show this year,” noted SCC President Dr. Michael Taylor. “We appreciate all the devoted sponsors who helped make this year’s car show a success. The show helps to support our Automotive Restoration program at the college,” added Taylor.
Taylor also notes that “West Stanly Business Association is working with us to develop a festival in conjunction with next year’s car show. We are very excited about all the possibilities that this relationship will bring to the college and the community.”
There were many winners, but it was Jack Reid who took home the “Best of Show” with his 1956 Ford F-100. This skillfully restored Ford truck was chosen over 115 participants.
Two car clubs—Ford Owners of America—Carolina Division (FOAC) and a newly formed Chevrolet club (DSLSJA)—provided ten or more preregistered vehicles entitling them to an additional trophy to have a show within a show. The “Ugliest Truck” award went to Bill Derugen, who brought a 1932 Ford pick-up.
