Albemarle, NC ─ Mrs. Ann Kiser, who retired on August 1 after 35 ½ years as Executive Assistant to the President at Stanly Community College, has been selected for a regional award by the National Trustees Association.
The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) selected Mrs. Kiser for the 2007 Southern Regional Board Staff Member Award. The award will be presented at the general session luncheon during the ACCT annual community college leadership congress in San Diego in September. The ACCT selects five regional winners annually and the national winner is announced at the leadership Congress.
Mrs. Kiser was the first person hired by SCC's initial President. She began work at Stanly Technical Institute on February 2, 1972. Over her career with the college she attended over 400 board meetings, missing only two in her 35 ½ year tenure. SCC Trustee Chair Whit Whitley cited Mrs. Kiser’s “dedication to SCC and her sincere belief in the college mission” in his letter of nomination for the award.
SCC president Dr. Michael Taylor, the third college President Mrs. Kiser has worked with, applauded the choice by ACCT. "I can't believe there is a more deserving community college staff person who works with a board of trustees as professionally as Ann has done for over 3 ½ decades. There are over 1200 community colleges in America, and for her to be selected as one of five for the award─speaks to just what kind of job she has done for SCC,” added Taylor.
Dr. Taylor concluded by citing the nomination form sent to ACCT. "The application form asked us to explain what outstanding characteristics motivated us to nominate this staff member, the SCC President explained. The response was easy. She executed her duties for almost 36 years while maintaining the confidentiality and decorum essential for the President's office. She greets each day and every visitor to the college with a smile and is unruffled by new or diverse responsibilities."
