(September 24, 2007) At the September trustees meeting it was announced that fall enrollment at Stanly Community College has shattered previous fall records. Dr. Taylor noted that enrollment for fall currently stood at 2,521 students, up by 268 over last fall. "We could see enrollment go even higher due to the registrations for some courses that begin later in the semester," Dr. Taylor told the trustees.
Dr. Taylor attributes part of the growth from the college's online courses and programs, noting that online enrollment was up to 730 students compared to 500 last fall. “Our Early Childhood online degree program has experienced explosive growth, with an increase in excess of 100 percent in one year. This huge increase in enrollment is no accident but reflects the great job our faculty and staff are doing in developing new courses both online and seated, as well as recruiting and retention of students. I think this is a great example of how quantity follows quality," Dr. Taylor added.
Tanya Davis, Vice President of Crutchfield Education Center, noted that both seated and online enrollments have continued to increase at Stanly Community College’s Crutchfield Campus. Basic Law Enforcement Recruit Training, Criminal Justice Technology , and Law Enforcement Professional Development programs have expanded to meet the demand. A new Mammography program is now being offered in conjunction with Radiography, and the North Carolina Auction Academy brings students to the Crutchfield campus from across North Carolina.
“Our staff and faculty are dedicated to insuring that our students receive the instructional and support services necessary to achieve their goals. The continuing enrollment increase demonstrates that our students recognize and appreciate the educational opportunities available through SCC,” remarked Dr. Russell Sharples, Vice President of Student Development.
“We have witnessed a phenomenal growth in students due to our any time, any place delivery philosophy. At Stanly Community College we put students first,” commented Robin McCree, Vice President of Instruction.
