SCC Students Celebrate National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week

(April 30, 2008) Stanly Community College’s (SCC) Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) students recently celebrated National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (NMLPW) during April 20-26, 2008.  For over thirty years, the NMLPW has honored the clinical and medical laboratorians across the nation.

The NMLPW originated in 1975, under the support of the American Society for Medical Technology, which is now labeled—American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).  With over 300,000 practitioners of clinical laboratory science in the United States, this profession continues to play an essential role in the diagnosis and prevention of disease.

SCC’s MLT students toured Spectrum Lab in Greensboro, NC and were treated to a complete tour of the general lab, microbiology, and molecular diagnostics departments.  The students saw a presentation on the history of the Spectrum Lab Organization, and were provided lunch.

If you would like more information about the Medical Laboratory Technology program, please contact Cindy Callahan, MLT Program Head at (704) 991-0382, or visit our website at www.stanly.edu.
