SCC Awards Rose Scholarships

(April 17, 2008) Stanly Community College (SCC) recently held its annual Katherine Sikes Crutchfield Scholarship Spring Luncheon at the Crutchfield Education Center, located in Locust.

The Katherine Sikes Crutchfield Scholarship Program, more commonly known as “The ROSE Scholarships” provides twenty (20) annual scholarships to prospective female students at Stanly Community College.  Priority is given to Stanly County residents majoring in Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science degrees.

Beth Swanner, Chair, Katherine Sikes Crutchfield Scholarship Program, gave a warm welcome to scholars, mentors, and guests during the luncheon.  Amy Hart and Candace Whitley, both ROSE Scholar recipients talked about their journey through SCC and what the ROSE Scholarship meant to them.

“It is through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Crutchfield and the Crutchfield Family Foundation that students are able to have the gift of education,” remarked Beth Swanner.

SCC President Dr. Michael Taylor presented the closing remarks for the luncheon and reminded all in attendance that, “the college is very fortunate to have this program for our students.  Our scholarship mentors are amazing people who believe in our students and their abilities.”
