SCC Hosts Webb Scholar Luncheon

(April 17, 2008) Stanly Community College (SCC) recently held its annual Webb Scholars luncheon in the Dennis Community Room, located on the Albemarle campus.  The scholarship program, funded by the Crutchfield Family Foundation, is named in honor of SCC trustee Dr. H. T. "Toby" Webb, Jr., who has served as a trustee at SCC since 1984.  The Webb Scholar program provides twenty annual scholarships to prospective male students enrolled either in the Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or Associate in Applied Science degree programs.

SCC President Dr. Michael Taylor began the program with opening remarks to scholars, mentors, and guests; followed by invocation from Webb Scholar, Michael Wadkins.

Charles Mangham, Billy Mishak, and Michael Lanier, all Webb Scholars, spoke to the group and thanked the scholarship committee and Mr. Crutchfield for the opportunity to continue their education.

Dr. Webb encouraged the scholars to continue on their path of success.  “We are delighted with what we have accomplished over the last three years with the Webb Scholarship program.  We are especially proud of our scholars and the important contributions they will make as Stanly County citizens,” added Dr. Webb.

SCC President Dr. Michael Taylor gave closing remarks and reminded the scholars to challenge themselves to give back in some way to others.  “Many students come back to college later in life, and through the generosity of Mr. Edward Crutchfield and the Crutchfield Family Foundation, SCC is able to help make a difference in these students lives through the gift of education,” added Taylor.
