Toys for Tots Project at SCC

mlt(December 19, 2012) The Stanly Community College (SCC) Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Club decided to assist with the Marine Corp. Toys for Tots Programs for their Christmas Community Service Project. Kayla Tolson, MLT Club President, was introduced to the program through a Marine Corp. mother at Stanly Regional Medical Center, where Kayla was attending her clinical rotation this past semester.

Kayla presented the program to the club members who were enthusiastic about helping.  The club sold World’s Finest Chocolate bars as a way to raise money for the toys.  The club also took donations and had drop boxes both at the Crutchfield and Albemarle campuses of SCC.

The club members went on a shopping spree to buy the toys especially in the 10 to 14 year age category, as that was the age with the greatest need last year.  Members of the club, along with their advisor, Cynthia Callahan, had a time of fun and fellowship as they shopped for toys.

Toys for Tots is a great organization and a fantastic tool for those in need and I was thrilled to get to participate in making sure that these children have a nice Christmas this year,” commented Donna Andrufski, club member. “I wanted to help because I have been blessed and wanted to give back in some small way.”
