The college recognizes and values knowledge and skills provided by adjunct faculty, staff and student employees.  Each brings unique experiences and community, business and industry connections to enhance Stanly Community College’s educational environment.

Any adjunct faculty or staff or student employee working a continuous thirty contact hour per week work load based on their specific job category, as listed below, will be offered the opportunity to enroll in the  NC State Health Insurance as mandated under the Affordable Care Act.  Part time employees have the option to waive the opportunity by signing a waiver form and submitting to the Human Resources (HR) Department.

The college will monitor part-time faculty and staff work hours to assure compliance with health benefit entitlement.  The college will assign administrative personnel to conduct reporting of instructional and non-instructional contract hours on a weekly basis.  A master spreadsheet will be maintained to catalog hours worked throughout the designated measurement period.  The table below provides definitions and measurement periods for the variety of contracts applicable to monitoring.

Also, the contract includes 16 additional hours above the class contact hours for instructional work outside of the classroom environment.

**Hourly contracts are based on the number of contact hours assigned to the course or clinical.  Hourly course contracts do not include instructional work outside of the classroom because the nature of the course does not indicate the need for additional hours. Courses falling under hourly contracts are lab, clinical or facilitator based.

***Hourly contracts for part time staff positions are based on the number of hours work is performed on a weekly basis.

****Hourly contracts for student employees are variable depending on the student’s weekly course schedule
