Student Development—Practice Placement Test

This is a practice placement test. Prior to taking the ASSET or COMPASS, which is are the official placement tests used at Stanly Community College, it is recommended that student applicants complete this practice placement test. The purpose of this practice test is to provide a sampling of the types of questions found in the ASSET and COMPASS and to help student applicants identify any specific academic weaknesses that should be addressed prior to taking the placement tests. Students who encounter difficulty on one or more sections of this practice test may contact Stanly Community College's Student Success Center at the college and arrange to participate in free computerized tutorials. These tutorials are offered online as well as in a lab setting at the Albemarle and Locust sites.

Retesting on the ASSET or COMPASS is not permitted unless the applicant is attempting to qualify for admission to an allied health program that requires a minimum score for admission consideration. Testers should therefore not take the placement test lightly. Proper preparation before testing will insure optimum test results. If you are scheduled to take the ASSET in the near future, it is recommended that you complete this practice test as soon as possible in order to determine if a review is necessary. If you feel a review is necessary, follow the directions at the end of the test for contacting the Student Success Center at SCC to arrange for free computerized tutorials.
