Registering at SCC—step by step:
1. Apply to the College Tell me more!
You must submit an "Application for Admission." There is more than one way you can do this:
- You can complete and submit your application online. Please read the directions carefully and fill in all required fields.
- You may also obtain an application from the college and send it by mail to:
Admissions Office

Along with your Application for Admission, other documentation is required dependent upon your educational goals*:
- If you are not seeking a degree or certificate, then you are a "Special Credit" student and require no additional documentation.
- Students who will apply to receive a certificate will need to submit an official high school or GED transcript. If you completed the online application, you also completed these request forms. Otherwise, these forms are availalble through the Admissions Office at (704) 991-0226.
- Students who will apply to receive a degree will need to submit an official high school or GED transcript as well as any additional official college transcripts. If you completed the online application, you also completed these request forms. Otherwise, these forms are availalble through the Admissions Office at (704) 991-0226. You should also schedule to take the placement test.
*This documentation must be completed before you can register for a second semester.
2. Register for Classes Tell me more!
Once your application has been submitted and processed, you are ready to register for classes. Advisors are available to assist you with this process. Registration dates are posted on the Stanly Community College web site. Contact the Admissions Office at (704) 991-0226 for specific information about your advisor.
Online registration through WebAdvisor will be available in Spring 2008.
–Take Placement Tests Tell me more!
Stanly Community College requires students to take a placement or assessment test. You may arrange to take a placement test at a community college near you and have the scores sent to SCC. You may also contact the SCC Admissions Office and arrange to take a placement test here. SCC will accept ASSET and COMPASS test scores within the past five years.
Placement tests at our campus are scheduled in advance. To make an appointment please contact the Admissions Office at (704) 991-0226 or (704) 991-0364 for the Crutchfield campus.
3. Pay for Classes Tell me more!
Having completed the application and registration process, you must now contact the Business Office to make arrangements for payment. Payment may be made by check, credit card (visa or Mastercard), or third party (such as Pell grant, scholarship, or employer). If a third party is providing an authorization for you, you are encouraged to follow up with the Business Office until you are sure that the third-party authorization has arrived. You may reach the Business Office at (704) 991-0228. Following up prevents students from being dropped for non-payment.
–Buy Your Books Tell me more!
The college bookstore carries textbooks for each semester’s courses. Textbooks may be ordered over the telephone by calling (704) 991-0229. Please have the following information ready when you call:
- Course information: Prefix, course number, section number, and name. For example: EDU (prefix) 144 (course number), 95 (section number), “Child Development I” (name). This allows the bookstore employee to select the correct textbook.
- Payment information. Please let the bookstore employee know how you plan to pay for the textbooks. We accept Visa and Master Card. If a “third party” is going to pay for your textbooks, please have them contact the Business Office at (704) 991-0228. Once the Business Office has the billing information, a book voucher will be issued which will allow you to order your books from the bookstore.
If you plan to purchase your textbooks from another student, please check to make sure the edition has not changed before you make the purchase. All textbook information is available on your course syllabus.
