Where is the Counseling and Career Services Center and when is it open?
The CCSC is located in the Patterson Building on the first floor in Room 115. It is open between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
How can I make an appointment?
You may make an appointment by calling or emailing a counselor. The following counselors are available to assist you:

Do I have to have an appointment or may I walk-in and see a counselor?
Making an appointment will assure the time and date you would like to be seen, but is not required. You may drop-in to see a counselor any time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
May I request a certain counselor?
You may request to see a specific counselor if that person is available.
What happens if I need to see someone after regular work hours?
In extenuating circumstances, it is possible to make an appointment after regular office hours. Please call your counselor for specific information.
If you are experiencing a crisis and need immediate assistance, call 911.
How can I be sure of confidentiality and ethical guidelines?
The counselors at SCC are all bound by the confidentiality and ethics guidelines set forth by the American Counseling Association.
Do I have to pay a fee for the service?
The services provided by the CCSC are all free of charge to future and current students at SCC.
What types of services are offered in the counseling department?
Some of the services offered by the CCSC are personal counseling, transfer counseling, job referral, career counseling, disability services assistance, minority mentoring, and academic probation assistance.
What if I had rather see a counselor in the community?
You may be referred to a counselor in one of the community agencies if you prefer. Check for some of the agencies in the Stanly County area.
I feel depressed. What should I do?
If you are feeling depressed, please refer to the self-help links. If you feel the problem is serious, please see a counselor immediately.

I may have an alcohol or drug problem. What should I do?
If you believe you have an alcohol or drug problem, please go to the self-help link for substance abuse. A counselor is available to assist you with seeking help.
My friend is having some problems. Can I talk with a counselor for him or her?
Yes. You may see a counselor on behalf of a friend, or you may refer to the self-help links provided.

Where can I get help finding a job?
The CCSC has a counselor to discuss current job listings and potential employers with you. Please call or email Tony Oettinger for further information.
Can someone help with preparing a résumé, cover letter, and with interviewing preparation?
We have a counselor available to assist you with résumé preparation as well as computers available with software programs and Internet access. Please call or email Denise Ross for more information.
Can someone help me decide on a major?
The counselors are available to assist you with your career decisions. If you are having trouble selecting a major, you may be a candidate for career testing. Please call or come by the CCSC for more information.
Where do I find information about assistance with a disability?/What type of disabilities can the Special Services Department help me with?
Andra Bennett is the Coordinator for Special Services. More information is available through the Special Services pages.
What does it mean to be on academic probation?
All students with less than a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) will be on academic Probation. Those wishing to be reinstated must see the Coordinator of Special Services, Andra Bennett, to develop a plan.
Does SCC have transfer information available?
Yes. Students may go to Patterson Building Room 119 to review material from all the North Carolina senior institutions and many out-of-state schools. You may also refer to the transfer equivalency list found on the transfer counseling page.
How do I get help with transfer questions?
The CCSC has information in Patterson Building Room 119 regarding all of the senior institutions in North Carolina and many out-of-state schools as well.
