A major role of Stanly Community College is to assist students in making the transition to college. Individualized counseling sessions may be arranged to discuss a student's interests, aptitudes, vocational goals, academic concerns, or personal issues. Such conferences are kept confidential.
Students are encouraged to visit a counselor's office any time a problem arises that could affect progress in their studies. Counseling services are provided for both day students (walk-in basis) and evening students (by appointment).
Upon application to the College, each student is assigned a faculty advisor who is available to help with situations related to the student's academic work. The advisor serves as a direct link between the student and the successful completion of the student's program of study.
Counseling services are located in the Student Development office in the Patterson Building. For academic, social, and personal counseling concerns, contact either Tony Oettinger at (704) 991-0236 or by email at aoettinger5344@stanly.edu or Denise Ross at (704) 991-0264 or by email at dross7926@stanly.edu.
