Get Red Hat certified with classes at Stanly Community College’s IT Academy (SCC/ITA). We offer courses for the Red Hat® Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification.

SCC/ITA offers these courses under the umbrella of Continuing Education. These fast-paced courses are conducted online. All course materials, assessments, and labs are available through our online learning management system. Students have access to top of the line instruction and equipment.

Note: SCC/ITA can offer the Red Hat courses only to individuals and not as part of corporate training.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the course?

Each course is 8 weeks (about 2 months) in length. 

What is the time/workload expectations for the course?

Each course varies a little, but most of our courses will have at least one weekly meeting at a time to be determined by the instructor based on the students’ availability. These will be recorded if you are unable to attend. The rest of the material will be scheduled asynchronously. This will allow students to work in their own time, and at their own pace, which can be especially helpful for adult learners who need to balance their education with work and family responsibilities. It also provides a way for students who live far away from a school or university to participate in courses remotely. However, there will be quizzes, labs, and assignments with due dates to help you stay on track to finish the class. 

Is the course able to be completed fully online?

Yes, all IT academy courses are offered in a fully online format. 

When will the course start?

IT Academy courses  start after the regular semester class start date, but typically run five sets of 8-week courses throughout the year. Please check the schedule for exact dates for the next course. 

Which course do you suggest that I take?

If you are interested in becoming a full time Linux Administrator and/or taking the RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) certification exam, it is recommended that you take both the RHA124 (System Administration 1) and RHA134 (System Administration 2) course. The RHA124 course is a prerequisite for the RHA134 course. 

What if I want to take both courses?

Each class is 8 weeks (about 2 months) in length. There will be a brief break in between classes. With that, you will need to allocate 16 active weeks to complete both courses. 

Will I be able to retake quizzes, labs, etc. after the course ends?

Once the class is over, the materials will not be available. Please complete the labs as many times as possible and view the content as much as possible during the set class dates.  

How much do the materials cost?

Materials are provided free of charge through the Red Hat Learning Portal, Canvas or SCC’s Netlab+. 

Do I receive a discount voucher for the certification exam at the end of the course?

Yes. 

How much of a discount?

After the completion of both RHA-124 and RHA-134, you will receive a 50% discount voucher for the EX 200 Exam.
