The college recognizes and values knowledge and skills provided by adjunct faculty, staff and student employees. Each brings unique experiences and community, business and industry connections to enhance Stanly Community College’s educational environment.
Any adjunct faculty or staff or student employee working a continuous thirty contact hour per week work load based on their specific job category, as listed below, will be offered the opportunity to enroll in the NC State Health Insurance as mandated under the Affordable Care Act. Part time employees have the option to waive the opportunity by signing a waiver form and submitting to the Human Resources (HR) Department.

Supervisors are expected to use the chart below when hiring and scheduling part-time personnel in order to ensure that they are working within the allotted hours for the position.

Measurement, Administrative, and Stability Periods
Health Coverage eligibility is based on hours worked during a 12 month Measurement Period. Following the Measurement Period, a 30-day Administrative Period is observed to determine eligibility and offer health insurance as required. Following the Administrative Period, accepted health coverage is provided during a 12 month Stability Period. Following the Stability Period, the covered employees will be evaluated to determine if health coverage should continue based on hours worked.

Standard Measurement Period: September 1 through August 31 of each year to coincide with health insurance open enrollment period

The College will monitor part-time faculty and staff work hours to ensure compliance with health insurance benefit entitlement. The College will assign administrative personnel to conduct reporting of instructional and non-instructional hours on a monthly basis. The Human Resources Department will be responsible for working with departments on compliance issues as well as offering health insurance benefits to eligible employees. Declination of health insurance benefits will not allow the employee to work additional hours.
