Over 50 pieces of art decorated the Learning Resources Center of Stanly Community College (SCC) for the 10th Annual Art Show. Pieces ranging from photography to textiles to car hoods exhibited the diverse and abundant talent from students, faculty, and staff of the College.
A reception was held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, to recognize the Art Show winners with ribbons and prizes. Ms. Jennifer Steiger, a past graduate of the Advertising & Graphic Design program, was selected to judge the artwork. She is owner of Jennifer Ann Photography, based in Albemarle, North Carolina.
Best of Show award went to Karen Barbee for her photograph titled Creative Blur at Oakboro Park. Second place winner was Caleb Herrin for his photograph January Sky. Third place went to Nina Efird for her photograph Ella.
Other winners included: Honorable Mentions – Car Hood (Automotive Paint & Body) by Robert Richard; The Old Mill (Photography) by Trina Plowman; and Pearlscale Goldfish (Digital Sculpting) by Aurian Finney. The President's Choice was selected by SCC President Dr. John Enamait and awarded to Cindi Poole, for her photograph titled Pastel Jewels. The Faculty Selection award went to Erin Allen for her mixed media presentation of The Television.
Each year, the Advertising & Graphic Design (AGD) department sponsors the Art Show at the College. AGD Program Head, Josh Gooch, commented, "I was thrilled by the various art mediums characterized and by the number of entries in the Art Show this year. We had excellent representation from students, faculty, and staff."
