Coleman T. Phifer, from Cleveland, North Carolina (NC), has been nominated as the 2017 Rookie Auctioneer Champion for North Carolina. Mr. Phifer is a graduate of Stanly Community College (SCC) Carolina Auction Academy (CAA), and is currently finishing his college degree at NC State, working with livestock and conducting auctions.

During the 2017 conference for the Auctioneer Association of NC, which was recently held in Cary, NC, the annual rookie championships took place. The contestant's skills were judged on presentation, salesmanship, bid calling, and a series of interview questions. A team of NC auctioneers judged the contest and ranked the participants. Tim Mast of Tennessee, one of the conference presenters, also helped with the judging. Mr. Mast is currently running for Vice President for the National Auctioneers Association and has been conducting real estate auctions for over 15 years. The contest was open to any NC auctioneer licensed for less than two years.

The next Carolina Auction Academy classes begin on August 28, 2017. For information contact, Betty O'Neal, SCC CAA Instructor, at
