Recently, Carolina Auction Academy (CAA) hosted their 21st graduation class of students to honor their accomplishments and to conduct a student auction as the final assignment for the class. Dr. Tammy Crump, Associate Vice President of Health and Public Services, and CAA Instructor Bill O'Neal presented diplomas to the graduates. All students were also given an individual DVD showing the progress they have made in class since the first meeting in August.
Each year students vote on two awards – Most Improved and Best All Around. This year's winners included Ed Hill for Most Improved and Robyn Christiansen for Best All Around. Judy Patterson received recognition for making the highest score on the final exam.
"Students drove long distances and worked hard - we are very proud of all of them," said Betty O'Neal, CAA Instructor. Two students have already been given part time jobs as support staff within auction companies. Their knowledge of auction rules, laws, and regulations were a big plus."
Family and friends of the graduates were present to share in the celebration and to hear about the special events that took place for the first time in the CAA program history. This class was visited by Charles Diehl, the new executive director of the NC Auctioneer Licensing Board, in the fall and he returned to lend support to the student auction. Other firsts for this class - more female students than any class prior, and students were interviewed on a nationally syndicated radio talk show.
The Welding students at the College created some original works of art from horseshoes for the student auction. These items included a Christmas tree, candle holders and pumpkins. Proceeds from the auction go to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
CAA will be offering a short 2-hour class in December and again in February for those interested in obtaining an Auction Firm license or becoming a Designated Person for auction companies.
Registration for the next CAA course is open now and class will begin on January 25. For more information, please contact Betty O'Neal at 704-991-0142.
