Charlotte Freeman Maness Scholarship Established

Charlotte Maness

Albemarle, NC - - The Stanly Community College (SCC) Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Charlotte Freeman Maness Scholarship. Charlotte has been an avid supporter and champion of Stanly Community College for many years. She believes strongly in the College mission and works alongside SCC to make our community a better place.

To honor Charlotte's commitment and legacy at Stanly Community College, her children, Jimmy and Jeanina, and their respective families, created this scholarship to assist students in realizing their dreams and reaching their fullest potential in the business programs, particularly Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) students. Charlotte’s roots run deep with the PBL organization. She received the 2013 Stanly PBL Business Person of the Year award, as well as the 2013 North Carolina (NC) PBL Person of the Year. Additionally, the NCPBL Professional Division-Foundation, Inc. awarded her the Distinguished Service Award for 2018. This award recognized her years as a judge, workshop leader and keynote speaker for state and national activities.

“When I chose to retire from a long and fulfilling career in the financial industry, I was given the opportunity to become involved with teaching and mentoring students at SCC through Phi Beta Lambda and other programs. This is a perfect fit for the next chapter in my life. To be able to share my knowledge and experience with the students, faculty and staff at SCC is an honor. I am extremely grateful and privileged to be a part of the Stanly Community College experience,” noted Charlotte Maness.

Charlotte also teaches for the Customized Training Programs and works with the Human Resources Department at SCC to offer valuable Professional Development opportunities. SCC is only one of the many local institutions that have benefited from her expertise, charismatic personality and strong set of values. Additionally, Charlotte works as a reporter and commentator for the College’s television show, Artworks: Arts in Stanly County. This program features local artists in the community, and has been airing on SCCTV Spectrum Channel 21 for nearly 6 years.

Christy Bogle, Executive Director, SCC Foundation, noted, “Mrs. Maness is a true friend to Stanly Community College. She works tirelessly to support our mission and I can think of no greater way to honor her than by providing scholarship opportunities for deserving students. I encourage others to recognize Charlotte's commitment to our community by supporting the Charlotte Freeman Maness Scholarship. Details of the scholarship and donations can be made on the SCC Foundation website. We are grateful for Charlotte and her dedication to SCC.”
