Faculty Studio Named in Honor of Dr. Kays Departure

Stanly Community College (SCC) is pleased to announce the naming of the Title III funded faculty innovation studio, the Dr. Brenda S. Kays Faculty Innovation Studio. The studio is located on the second floor of the Patterson Building on the Albemarle campus and officially opened its doors on October 16, 2014. The studio offers opportunities for professional development, training on instructional design, and best practices in online instruction for SCC’s faculty.

During Dr. Kays’ tenure at SCC, she was able to procure a $2,248,211 Title III Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant was for the purpose of strengthening courses for optimum learning, regardless of whether the class is offered online or in a traditional classroom. It also enables faculty members across the College to gain training and support, which included an eLearning studio, among many other related projects.

“Both the SCC Foundation Board and the SCC Board of Trustees are very pleased to honor Dr. Kays by renaming the faculty studio in her name. The Title III Grant, along with all its related projects that Dr. Kays has secured for the College, serves as an excellent example of how she has provided vision and put solutions in place to benefit faculty, staff, and most importantly, students,” noted SCC Trustee Chair, Nadine Bowers.
