Gray Stone Day School was recently named the 2017 Stanly County Quiz Bowl champion during a local academic competition of high school students held at North Stanly High School.
Teams from North Stanly, South Stanly, West Stanly, and Gray Stone strived to out-answer each other in many different subjects. Questions are posed to the high school students in categories such as Arts & Music, Language & Literature, Math & Science, Religion & Mythology, Sports & Recreation, History & Geography, and North Carolina Current Events.
Mr. Clay Honeycutt coaches the Gray Stone Day School Quiz Bowl winning team and members include Trey Allen, Bryce Biehle, Drew Heald, Tyler Heald, Jackson Lee, William Nicks, Chloe Nicola, Thomas Perrell, Gabriel Reader, Connor Rokos, Nick Rokos, and Raines Webster.
The Quiz Bowl was hosted by the Stanly County Quiz Bowl Committee, which includes representatives from Stanly Community College (SCC), Pfeiffer University, Stanly County Public Library, and Stanly County Schools. Uwharrie Bank served as sponsor for the event.
SCC Instructor and Quiz Bowl Committee Chair Ms. Tanya Nicks stated, "The committee is very grateful to the sponsor, the coaches, and the volunteers who invested time and effort into making this event successful for these young academic scholars."
