On Tuesday, May 5th the Stanly Community College (SCC) Small Business Center (SBC) held its first “Grounds for Business” roundtable. About 35 local business owners and community leaders attended the event.
“Grounds for Business” is a countywide business roundtable fostering conversation and collaboration with Stanly County business owners and entrepreneurs. This event features an hour of open conversation and a thirty minute presentation by a keynote speaker. The goal of the roundtable is to foster economic growth by uniting local businesses, entrepreneurs, and other organizations concerned with economic growth in Stanly County.
According to SCC President, Dr. Brenda Kays, “’Grounds for Business’ is a wonderful opportunity for local businesses to sit down, share their insights and collaborate with one another on a variety of topics. Stanly Community College strives to be a catalyst to facilitate greater communication between local business and community leaders which in turn allows the College to move toward accomplishing its mission of supporting economic development in Stanly County.”
Stanly County Manager, Andy Lucas, was the featured speaker and his presentation covered a variety of topics that are important to the local business community. Mr. Lucas stated that it is, "…always a pleasure to speak with business leaders in our community about the activities of County government. We offer many services and programs that may be able to assist existing business owners or entrepreneurs who are considering a new business venture. We want to listen and better understand what keeps a business owner up at night so we can coordinate potential resources to mitigate concerns." Mr. Lucas spent around 45 minutes fielding questions from local business owners.
The SBC plans on hosting the “Grounds for Business” every first Tuesday, with the next roundtable on June 2nd, 7:30 am at the Stanly Community College Small Business Center (SBC), 143 N. 2nd St., Albemarle, NC.
